PAC Day 1- Blog
So we’re here at the wonderful Providence Convention Center at the fantastic Providence Anime Conference. The experience thus far has been ecstatic and the atmosphere most welcoming. Of course this is the 21 and over convention and I think that has spoken volumes of the kind of community you are able to find at the convention level. The word I’d use to describe this is accessibility. Everyone from staff to guests and everyone else is just so laid back and relaxed its almost indescribable.
At most conventions, Friday is a rather big day. Not so much here, Friday panel events didn’t start until 3pm with registration starting around 1pm. Oh by the way, we for the first time ever… hit the front of the registration line. And the best part, not big amounts of staff directing you around lines of tape in the floor. In fact, registration was set up early! Thats right, almost everything was set up in advance.
For our first panel of the day, we hit up Otaku Dating. Of course, expecting a long line we went early. Turns out, it was very walk in, sit down and open ended. Again, no line, ready to go. After being devoted Anime Boston attendees, this is an excellent change of pace but also a little uneasy.
Overall the panel structures have been on a sliding scale of excellence however it seems as though there should have been a bit more content on Friday.
We’ll be talking more about our direct experiences on Episodes 85 and 86 of SHAFT. Episode 85 will be recorded here at PAC, however those who were hoping for a live UStream version of this episode… I’m afraid we have to disappoint you. The space we have been sanctioned… and yes.. we got space to record has no Wi-Fi. The staff could really have cared less about the UStream part however with no Wi-Fi, no internet streaming. Sorry.
We’ll try and keep entries up for this blog and funny pictures like the one of Matt trying to hug air.

PACing Up!
Three forth of our panel, including myself, is currently packing it up and getting ready for Providence Anime Conference. So there will be no normal blog content updates for this week. But I will give a brief outline of what our coverage will look like over the next few days.
Blog Entries: We will attempt to put up some brief blog entries on each day of the con. Just a bit of written stuff on what we did that day and maybe even a picture of Matt sleeping through the con.
Podcast: SHAFT #85 will be recorded from the convention floor on Saturday October 4th at around 12:30pm EDT. That is a tentative time and once we assess the internet situation we will post if we will have UStream capability. If you are physically there however, please stop by we would enjoy an audience.
SHAFT TV: We will be recording a lot of content for SHAFT TV. Including a Behind the Scenes episode, Panel Episode, Events Episode and Con Floor episode. So if you’re there, look for us with the camera and then you can be SHAFT TVed.
If there are any cool blog updates, you can thank Angelo who will be holding down the fort while we’re gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pops in with some stuff of his own.

For starters, we brought up some interesting thoughts on stuff we are watching, Chris fills us in on a literal wrist cutting anime, Angelo finds a new appreciation for Code Geass(no thanks to Gene of course) and Gene gets into the upcoming October/Halloween spirit by quickly running down Trinity Blood.
In the mail bag we talk about Ranma 1/2 disappearing from Best Buy shelves, and some TV and Toonami feedback from last episode and what Toonami really, truly meant to the anime community as a whole.
We then hit the meat of the episode with a rundown of New York Anime Festival. We talk big announcements, industry hoo-ha and even bring in a special guest who actually went to give us a fans-eye perspective of what went down at this big ol’ con. Its certainly a conversation worth a listen.
We also talk about all the anime hitting sites like Hulu and Joost in the wake of anime taking a huge hit on TV. Is this a move that will help shape not only anime’s outreach but how we watch TV at large? Find out!
