This Week: Good Intentions… paved in blood…
Ya thats a really morbid title for this post but I’m rolling with it.
This week on the show we’re talking about evil heroes. Lately, anime’s big hits involve a protagonist who’s good intentions are at the end of the river of blood they create in their wake. We’re also reviewing Death Note: The Last Name. While we’re at it we’ll talk about this weeks Robotech heavy releases. For good measure we’ll even read off some fan mail.
Plus the big surprise will be more or less relieved by then so we’ll talk about that too.
If you have something to say this week about our topics then hit the contact page, hit us up with an email or a voicemail(through Skype or phone). We’d love to hear from you!
No commentsEpisode #86: Hunting Ghosts! The Geriatric Otaku!!
This week we jumped right in with some more talk about the mystery anime Gene and Chris are watching… all will be revealed on Sunday! Angelo mentioned a lot of not yet US anime, Gene is discovering a new found love for Code Geass and Chris is well… busy.
After talking about the listener reviews we moved on to answer some questions people had about PAC. From the silly to the downright serious, we thought our listeners deserved to weigh in on the topic. From there we talked about some big releases this week and last week. Ghost Hunt and Claymore are out picks, but October is definitely the month of big time anime releases so get ready!
After some break time action, we talked about some required manga reading with small reviews of Yatsuba and Fruits Basket. Talked some anime news with Death Note: The Last Name in theaters this week, along with some streaming for Ouran, School Rumble and Darker then Black. And while we were at it we talked a little about older anime fans… cause they need some love too.
We wrapped it all up with a review of the supernatural thriller anime, Ghost Hunt. You’ll come for the visuals and stay for the enrapturing story. Definitely one of the stronger releases this month that you need to pick up just in time for Halloween.

No commentsThis Week- We’re old… and it Shows.
This week on the show we’ve recovered from our con attending. We plan on talking a little bit about Providence Anime Conference. Not too long, but since Angelo wasn’t old enough to go and others may or may not have gone.. we’re going to field some questions from the audience and our younger panelist. So hang tight for that. We may even consider calls…
Other topics up for consideration are the place of the 18 and older anime fan base, a quick look at some manga we’ve been dipping into including some manga not even out in the US yet, plus YOUR emails and calls!
We’re reviewing Ghost Hunt this week in our October month of horror/supernatural anime reviews. Next month look forward to a month of Miyazaki movie reviews.
Its an action packed SHAFT you don’t want to miss. So join us won’t you?
No commentsVoting is Important
We’re not just talking about in general, but more specifically… be sure to hit the forums and vote for the series that the panel puts through the ringer in our next Full Series Review episode.
So far Full Metal Panic! is in the lead closely followed by School Rumble. Make your voice heard, get over to the forums and put your vote into what you want us to review next! SHAFT FSR will be back in order starting in November, and you get to pick what we review!

No commentsPAC Day 1- Blog
So we’re here at the wonderful Providence Convention Center at the fantastic Providence Anime Conference. The experience thus far has been ecstatic and the atmosphere most welcoming. Of course this is the 21 and over convention and I think that has spoken volumes of the kind of community you are able to find at the convention level. The word I’d use to describe this is accessibility. Everyone from staff to guests and everyone else is just so laid back and relaxed its almost indescribable.
At most conventions, Friday is a rather big day. Not so much here, Friday panel events didn’t start until 3pm with registration starting around 1pm. Oh by the way, we for the first time ever… hit the front of the registration line. And the best part, not big amounts of staff directing you around lines of tape in the floor. In fact, registration was set up early! Thats right, almost everything was set up in advance.
For our first panel of the day, we hit up Otaku Dating. Of course, expecting a long line we went early. Turns out, it was very walk in, sit down and open ended. Again, no line, ready to go. After being devoted Anime Boston attendees, this is an excellent change of pace but also a little uneasy.
Overall the panel structures have been on a sliding scale of excellence however it seems as though there should have been a bit more content on Friday.
We’ll be talking more about our direct experiences on Episodes 85 and 86 of SHAFT. Episode 85 will be recorded here at PAC, however those who were hoping for a live UStream version of this episode… I’m afraid we have to disappoint you. The space we have been sanctioned… and yes.. we got space to record has no Wi-Fi. The staff could really have cared less about the UStream part however with no Wi-Fi, no internet streaming. Sorry.
We’ll try and keep entries up for this blog and funny pictures like the one of Matt trying to hug air.
