Episode #84- Festival! The Eventful Anime Pilgrimage!!

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

For starters, we brought up some interesting thoughts on stuff we are watching, Chris fills us in on a literal wrist cutting anime, Angelo finds a new appreciation for Code Geass(no thanks to Gene of course) and Gene gets into the upcoming October/Halloween spirit by quickly running down Trinity Blood.

In the mail bag we talk about Ranma 1/2 disappearing from Best Buy shelves, and some TV and Toonami feedback from last episode and what Toonami really, truly meant to the anime community as a whole.

We then hit the meat of the episode with a rundown of New York Anime Festival. We talk big announcements, industry hoo-ha and even bring in a special guest who actually went to give us a fans-eye perspective of what went down at this big ol’ con. Its certainly a conversation worth a listen.

We also talk about all the anime hitting sites like Hulu and Joost in the wake of anime taking a huge hit on TV. Is this a move that will help shape not only anime’s outreach but how we watch TV at large? Find out!

This Week!- New York Anime Festival

Friday, September 26th, 2008

This week we’re going to be talking all about the New York Anime Festival… well almost all about but it will be the center of our discussion this week. If you’re there already and are reading this, send us an email preferably with pictures and all kinds of accounts and stories that you may have. Also, remember our contest(check contest page for details).

The other half of our discussion will focus on the big news that didn’t happen at NYAF which is the anime outreach to online TV outlets such as Joost and Hulu. Were we reading the industries mind when they made the move to further their own online audience?

We’ll also be spotlighting some anime releases, talk about the supposedly ecchier Kanokon, talking about Gene’s marathon of anime this weekend, and maybe even a SHAFT TV! Its a big week and its rolling through New York and heading for Providence! So join us!

This Week on the Blog:

AMV Alert!- Death Note: Getting Away With Murder

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

We haven’t done an AMV Alert! with Death Note lately and with the second movie hitting theaters soon, now is a good time. This is an awesome Death Note AMV, worthy of an AMV Alert!

However, much like every Death Note AMV out there…. its spoiler heaven, so if you still haven’t watched Death Note… watch it first, then this. Oh, and it has a high quality version. Hit the direct link for a shot at that.

Vote on the next Full Series Review

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

With a con coming up… we’ve been rather busy. But once its over, we want to get back to our Full Series Review episodes. A little something we like to do every couple of weeks that enables us to talk about a series at great length and let you know what we think. Sometimes we have encouraging reviews(FLCL, Neon Genesis Evangelion)… other times we sit and sort of poke fun… for 50 or so minutes(Big O, Haruhi Suzumiya) but all in all they’re awesome episodes that are always worth checking out for an in-depth anime discussion.

But we’ve hit a road where there are so many good series to talk about… we don’t know where to start. So hit the forums… or more specifically this thread and vote for the next series we should review. The episode would most likely be recorded toward late October/early November as we will be putting a good deal of stuff from PAC up… as well as a few other surprises. So, vote away and we’ll bring you the full series action.

Episode #83 Party Con! Television is Losing Out!!

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

This week, Chris is watching a mystery anime while Angelo is watching more then ever, we talk quickly about this weeks bonus episode and interview, and other upcoming show details.

We sit down and talk a little Anime Weekend Atlanta. While not the most news worthy con there was some interesting tidbits such as Funimation’s push to new media and high definition, Bandai’s 4 audio Hayate move, how cons shouldn’t use small rooms for new releases, and Cartoon Network’s decision to finally can Toonami and their anime focus in general.

This of course brought about a big discussion about anime on television in general… which ended up being very roundabout. We chime in quickly about this weeks set of releases and wrap it all up with a look at Otomo’s Steamboy. We’ve weighed in on Akira… now find out what we thought about this… the answer may surprise you.

Episode #82a- PAC!! The Big Interview!!

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Despite the lack of blog updates, we’ve been quite busy. So busy in fact that we recorded an episode of the show. An episode of the show that contains an awesome interview with Rick Healey, Press Liaison for Providence Anime Conference, the first anime con for ages 21 and older! We’ve been a large supporter of their efforts and usually speak highly of the New England Anime Society and their related events.

We talked a bit about many of the questions that we and the listener base had about the conference, we also went into some other enjoyable anime and gaming related talk as well. It was a blast to do and it was defiantly a lot of fun.

If you’re in the 21+ bracket and are able to come down, I highly recommend it… its looking like that community con you’ve always wanted… with peers your own age bracket.

AMV Alert!: Rave Master - Raveolution

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

This is a total cop out AMV Alert! Basically its an AMV for Rave Master… using the extended US intro music. However, as far as US made intro music goes I’d say this is by far the best.

Anime: Rave Master
Song: Raveolution - Reel Big Fish

Episode #82- Blue Afro! The Quality Could be Better!!

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Short, fluff show. Sort of weak but better then nothing. We’ll be back to full strength next week with a special surprise.

This week on the show we brought up a few minor topics of minor consequence. A new forum for listener reviews, comments on the blog being reactivated and other small cast news items. A couple of emails including a trip back to the short bus with some anime we missed, and some fun recommendations for the panel.

From there we talked about a report citing that anime DVD sales in Japan went down due to increases of anime sales for Blu-Ray. We went on to talk about the draw of Blu-Ray to anime fans, Amazon Japan having all anime top ten releases in Blu-Ray and how Blu-Ray might not be as great as you think for your anime.

We talked big on releases, many of which you’ve been waiting almost a year to see again which were re-released as part of the Funimation/Geneon deal. A little something for everyone this week, see what we think.

We also finally talk about Afro Samurai, it hit Blu-Ray shelves recently and we thought it was high time to see what this series had to offer. Did it surprise us and overcame its adversity or did it just simply fall flat? Listen to our review and find out!

Episode #81- The List!! Adventures on the Short Bus!!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

This week we announced our contest winner, talked a little about Rurouni Kenshin’s 3rd season woes, a couple of big releases to look forward to… for one reason or another, Gene threw some thoughts out about Bleach: Diamond Dust Rebellion for the fans and other anime we’re watching at the moment.

From there a who’s who of anime under 13 episodes or less. Hear what each of our panelists recommends and then hear what our listeners recommend as well. Defiantly something for everyone in the short anime pool.
