Between catching up on 10 different anime series, producing audio content, pwning noobs in the World of Warcraft and having a fun regular ol’ life… Gene Marques, host and producer of Super Happy Anime Fun Time, brings you his unique slant on anime, manga, pop culture(Japanese and America), gaming and other assorted things on the mind of the young mind behind anime’s podcast sensation.

This week Gene’s talking about the lack of a good dub for fantasy anime, geeky related deaths, and Chrono Trigger to the DS.

Why no Good Dub for Fantasy?!

Having sat through Slayers, Sorcerer Hunters, and now Magic Knight Rayearth… I’m now to the conclusion that there is truly no good dub for a fantasy anime. My major complaint draws with the fact that a good chunk of the dialogue is emotionless. It feels so dialed in I might as well be listening to this over the phone. Other then that, I feel that the other problem comes from the dialogue itself. It feel as though the writers went ahead and gave the most basic translation of the dialogue which was given to the ADR directors and voice cast to which they’re given a script that they then have to attempt to put some emotion and heart behind but falls short.

I wonder if its because most of the iconic fantasy series were released before what fans would say ‘the age of dubbing going right’.

Why all the death?

In two weeks time there have been a number of ‘geek’ related deaths. Deaths of either actors in ‘geek’ series or creators of geek content. Its sad to see, but its something thats ringing in my head as of late. It seems as though death itself is just shunning geeks all of a sudden. What have we done wrong?! Oh… right… that…

However, is it wrong or different to feel sad about such losses as others may be saddened over the loss of their favorite actor or musician. Sure there won’t be candlelight vigils or anything but people leaving comments in forums, news sites, etc.. such as “Who cares?” “Why is this here?” and other offensive drivel drives me nuts.

Chrono Trigger Leaps into the Future

Probably the best thing I’ve heard in a while is that Chrono Trigger is coming to the Nintendo DS. I think while this is a rereleased title, its most likely the opening shot of gaming titles that we will be expecting in time for the holiday season. Chrono Trigger in my opinion holds special meaning to gamers everywhere.

This is one game I can proudly say that I’ve finished in under a week. In a way it was when gaming became more enjoyable, especially for RPG’s and rather quick to enjoy and get on to the next one. While the overall Point A to B concept of beating it was there, the game was clever enough to give itsself replayability(which is not as common in games for some reason) by offering you to be able to beat the game at any time you felt comfortable with as many or few of the games characters or which ever objectives you completed to give you multiple endings. If only games had that concept now…
