Simpsons + DBZ = Huh?!

Thought i’d throw out a little something I saw recently. Some Simpsons style Dragonball Z characters. Pretty nice if you ask me.

Taking it to the Blog!

As you might have noticed the number of blog entries have increased through the week… aside from entries into show notes. Well, thats because we thought why make you wait a week to hear from us.

Why not do reviews, anime news, and other stuff through out the week. So thats what we’re gonna do. Fill up the blog with some of the more interesting bits of anime related stuff throughout the week, that way you don’t have to wait for a show to hear what we think on a subject.

But wait, there’s more. You can help too! Thats right, send in interesting anime images, sounds, YouTube videos, AMV’s, cosplay examples, or even your own reviews of anime or manga! Thats right, we’re gonna put it up. The fans voice is here folks and its your time! If you not only have something for the podcast or something too long for the podcast, feel free to send it in anyway! You will make it up here in blog form.

Remember, animeshaft@gmail.com is the place to send that stuff.

In addition, Angelo in his infinite wisdom, we also have a group on Facebook. If you’re a fan of the show, check it out. (Link)

Gene is also stupidly obsessed with Twitter, if you want to follow senseless rambling go ahead. (Link)

Tamagotchi Anime Movie?!

Bandai in its infinite wisdom to make themselves a continued running gag with us has announced a peculiar license Eiga de Tōjō! Tamagotchi Doki Doki! Uchū no Maigotchi!? which is based around Tamagotchi.

Yes, that Tamagotchi. The little freaking key chain pet thing that children in the late 90’s would obsess over.

In all honesty, I can see that this would be a good draw for the kids demographic of anime… but if they’re going to do this they might as well release… POGS! The Anime!

Review/Suggestion: Fullmetal Alchemist Manga!

Lately in my pursuit of all things manga, I’ve come across something familiar to help me out. Fullmetal Alchemist.

This has got me hooked from chapter one and hasn’t let go. The story starts off rather close to the anime at first but quickly ventures off into a story that is just something all its own. It gives you the same mind blowing story elements, retold in a different way giving it an identity all its own.

The art style in my opinion doesn’t feel as stylized as the anime version but still gives you something pretty to look at. If you enjoy Fullmetal Alchemist in anime form you’ll love the manga version. If you haven’t checked it out, shame on you… but if you really haven’t I recommend the anime version above the manga version. While the manga version has more explored story depth along with redistributing the character depth to different characters… you might find yourself a little lost fairly easily.

Either way, check it out. 16 volumes are available here in the US, overseas people need to let me know what its like over there. A great manga if you’re just getting into manga from anime(which believe it or not isn’t as rare as you think).

Episode #67- Cinematic!! Movies are on the Rise!

As always, we took some time out to talk some big time anime topics.

Among what we’re watching, Gene comes up with a startling anime… Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, hatred for the Bleach dub, and other great suggestions.

Took a nice email about what our favorite anime food was. You’ll be surprised what we talked about.

We talked some Death Note 3rd movie, Crunchyroll teaming up with ADV to show Welcome to the NHK, Bandai Visual USA on the way out… but not for the same reasons as Geneon, not one but two Gurren Lagann movies, and Sci-Fi Channel airing Gurren Lagann.

With all that news we just went on to talk big box releases, a little Dragonball Z and a lot of One Piece.

We then went on to review Death Note… the live action theatrical release. Seeing this movie won’t alienate anyone who hasn’t already seen the anime or read the manga. That and big fans of the anime or manga will enjoy this different take on the supernatural mystery tale.

Big thanks to Clint and other fine contributers who make this show better in their own unique and awesome ways!!

Episode #66- Anime Physics!! The Heated Topic of Things to Come!!

This week we took some fine emails from the commuinty, after we went through whats tickling our fancy.

From there we talked about the big acquisition week for Funimation netting in RomeoxJuliet, D-Grey Man, Ouran High School Host Club and Shigurui. We went into Stan Lee’s interview regarding manga… is his big name going to bring in the non-Otaku? And we talk money.. and how much Speed Racer made in its opening weekend compared to everyone else.

We also put on our professor hats and talked a little anime physics with everyone.

A big release spotlight with boxes and movies abound that and a look at the smash hit anime comedy, Lucky Star… does this series warrant the hype?

All that and even more, so listen in!

Get SHAFTed at the Movies!

Wednesday May 21st, the entire SHAFT panel is taking a trip out to Revere MA to partake the viewing of the live action Death Note movie(the first one)! Anyone local enough and interested enough can catch us there. We’ll probably be the group of guys talking into an ipod about what we thought of it at the end.

It’d be fun to get other peoples thoughts on the movie too, so keep an eye out and maybe we’ll see you there.

Episode #65- Gene! Between Ecchi and Hentai!!

This week we tested out our ability to perform a live show via the internet and we think it worked out well. And Angelo came back to offend us all.

Among the topics at hand, what we’re watching for better or worse, More new SHAFT TV, how many people want the forums back.

We grabbed a couple of emails out of the bag and answered a couple of questions. One about the Hellsing OVA we didn’t get and what favorite anime specific music we listen to.

As for real news, more anime hitting the big screen in its original form, an upcoming Lucky Star OVA, Kanokon being more ecchi in DVD release, and some Evangelion related food… in Japan of course..

After a couple of important sounding releases, we hit the review bandwagon and take a look at the live action Speed Racer. Will it be worth the average anime fans time?

We also took a surprise call from the live chat room.

Episode #64- Cosplay Questions! The Questionable Episode Appears!!

No Angelo again, but we seek to offend in his place… or do we?

This week we talk about some series that we’re watching, feedback and addition to the Essential Anime list, advice for the otaku hitting cons, and a little something on Cosplay.

We talk a little Bandai on downloads and Blu-Ray.

We review Kujibiki Unbalance along side Genshiken OVA Episode 1. While Kujibiki Unbalance was extremely enjoyable to us, it might not be the same for those who are not familiar with Genshiken. However the off the wall humor and total exploitation for anime’s stereotypes really help out while bad soundtrack and flimsy art style hurts it.

Genshiken OVA Episode 1 gave us more of the same from the original series and left us wanting more. If you’re a Genshiken fan this is a must see if you’re not its encouragement enough to track down the original series.
