Episode #63- Death Bed! Staying out of the Rain!!

Angelo evaded the show again. Curse him!

This week we talked about a lesser known anime stereotype, some more of your mail,

We even mentioned Viz releasing more anime straight to box sets and a Kill Bill anime sequence is in the works. But we mainly went into a list of what we’d like to call essential anime. For new fans, old fans in need or something good to watch or if you have someone you’d like to get into anime.

We also took a look into Elven Lied. Be aware that this is one fun, bloody fest of an anime. But with stunning visuals and brilliant animation this is one series that has a slow start but beautiful visuals and fairly excellent music will keep you entertained.

AMV Alert!- Neon Genesis Evangelion- Still Alive

Anime: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Song: Still Alive- Johnathon Coulton

In honor of Chris finally watching Evangelion and the fact that I finally found a non sucky/handicam version of this AMV that we got a chance to see at Anime Boston 2008.

I’d say its fairly spoiler ridden if you ask me. Nothing that gives the whole overall plot away but there is some scenes from the 1st episode to the 26th episode so I’m gonna throw that out there.

Episode #62- Big Pictures!! Drawing in the Crowds!!

Without Angelo again, so enjoy a fairly offensive free show.

First off we read off some email, cause its nice to read them, Gene has a small rant about crossing auto insurance and Speed Racer and other nonsensical nonsense.

The following movies are brought up, Ghost in the Shell, Bleach: Memories of Nobody, Death Note. And finally, someone listened to us cry about Gurren Laggen… and it was Bandai.

Lack of releases this week but it could be worse, a lot of bad stuff could have been flooded into the market. We also top it off on whats left for anime on TV.

AMV Alert!- Dead Fantasy II

I’ve wanted to put up some of the AMV’s and other cool media we saw at Anime Boston this past year so I better start with the grand daddy of coolness we saw, Dead Fantasy II.

The YouTube version doesn’t do it justice in the slightest. But check it out nonetheless. Although this technically isn’t an AMV, it still falls into the otaku realm of enjoyment.

Check out the link below for both Dead Fantasy videos and more of Monty Oum’s work, and in better then YouTube quality I might add.

Episode #61- Spring Preview!! Comedy over Drama!!

Despite there being no Angelo, we managed on just fine without him.

We took the time to review 5 series that recently premiered in Japan, some we enjoyed, some we didn’t enjoy as much and others we chose not to review because of how bad they were before watching. Hopefully this will give you an idea of whats coming down the pipes.

We took the time to talk about AnimeonDVD.com being sold and a Eureka Seven movie.

All that plus a trip to the mail bag, why anime doesn’t help the Pirate v. Ninja argument, release spotlight, and a review(finally) of 5 Centimeters Per Second.

Big thanks to all those who write in, call in or otherwise participate in the show! We really appreciate it!

Live Action Ghost in the Shell is Go!

We all know the rumorish news that Production IG had been allowed to pitch off the rights to make a Ghost in the Shell live action movie and we have a winner: Dreamworks.

While some of the names on the project give us hope, we’ll have to see how the rest of the anime live actions work out before passing and judgments.

We have a main topic, we’re talking about some of the hot new anime coming out of Japan this spring. What we should look forward to, what doesn’t look as nice, and other enjoyable bits.

If you have any of your own contributions to the show, animeshaft@gmail.com or 203-599-GEEK(4335) is where you want to send them.
