Episode #57- Simultaneous!! The Convention Returns… Again!!

This week we return from Anime Boston to do an episode of the show. Apologies for no Full Series Review episode or Live Anime Boston episode this year. Things were really really really hectic over there which made additional recording somewhat troublesome. However, this episode is super-sized to make up for the lack of two episodes this week.

Even though there being a con, there was news. We chatted a bit about the deal Gonzo struck for streaming anime, Negima licenses, Bandai licenses, 4Kids licenses(crappit..), the name for the new Slayers, and other random bits.

We spotlighted a few releases that are coming out, and some we already had in our little hands… with autographs no less. There should be something to enjoy.

Chris and Gene throw down some recommendations for manga that you might enjoy… or not.

From there we go into our indepth and long winded coverage of Anime Boston 2008. What went down, what went right, what went wrong and people I felt a need to rant to directly. Its all there, whatever you wanted to know about the largest anime convention on the east coast.

We should probably mention, no review this week either. The con really kind of ate our time, lives and wallets. Expect a review of xxxHOLIC next week, and maybe another quick review.

Big thanks to all those who write in, call in or otherwise participate in the show! We really appreciate it!

Weekend Update…

As many of our listener base know, and some may not is the fact that we attended Anime Boston 2008 this year. While we were striving to record a live edition of the program, the sheer number of attendees and total lack of space prevented us from recording one. So….. instead of a review this week, we’ll be talking all Anime Boston all the time, except for news… and manga corner… and release spotlight but other then that. I hope you’ll be looking forward to that for those who attended the convention and those who did not.

Also, we will be putting out 3 more episodes of SHAFT TV. We will be putting these up on YouTube and cross posting them here to the SHAFT blog. These three will once again be containing clips from panels we attended while at Anime Boston. There’s kinda no real intro or ending clips this time in order to cram as much as we can from the convention into the videos. Though you might see our bright happy faces from time to time.

Stay tuned. New normal podcast episode for tomorrow and SHAFT TV within the week. Good times.

“I’m Vic Mignogna…. and I’m a Warlock.”

As you know we here at SHAFT are fans of not only anime but a great variety of things, among them… World of Warcraft.

There’s even a team named after us…

But one of our favorite people on earth combined the two into something wonderful. Its a parody on the current World of Warcraft ads, check it out.

Episode #56- Crunchy! East Meets West!

Angelo gets eaten by the ghost of Skype, so its just three out of four.

In this episode you’ll a few random bits, our take on the whole Crunchyroll fiasco, a non YouTube and official Batman: Gotham Knight preview, why Anime Boston doesn’t have a schedule up with 2 days to go, and we also go through an email and a call.

We spotlight some big name releases for the week. And trust me, no hidden gems this week. Chris and Gene go over a personal Deal of the Moment. Then we all sit down and review the visually spectacular Appleseed Ex Machina.

Episode #55- Apples Engage! The Giant Worm Attacks!!

This week we bring up Super Smash Bros, some random anime facts at the top, Appleseed anime series’ pre-announcement, Viz’s live action Death Note trailer, Dragonball being pushed back a year, and Disney and Madhouse teaming up for a Stitch CGI short.

We talk about some big releases of the week which are all pretty good. Even a couple deals of the moments pop up.

Not to mention, we cruise in a review of Goldenboy. Ecchi ahoy with this old time OVA about a guy who decides to learn about life by coasting from part time job to part time job.

Just another wacky and off the wall episode this week. So if thats not your thing, then you are forewarned of the insanity of this weeks episode.

Live Action Dragonball Delayed

It would appear that 20th Century Fox has delayed Dragonball’s live action release until April 2009. Making it the year the oktau cry, as now in addition to Akira(Live Action) and Astro Boy(CGI) we will also have Dragonball. This marks Speed Racer as the only live action US adaptation coming to the big screen this year.

20th Century Fox has pushed back the studios’ big screen Dragonball adaptation from August 15, 2008 to April 3, 2009. On the old date, it was facing The International, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tropic Thunder and Wild Child, while it is currently by itself on the new date.
