Review:

Gene reviewed Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, kinda vaugely. It fits our format as it is standalone from an anime series and is the only movie of its kind. The stunning CG visuals and nice story really round it out. The requirement of clearing through the Playstation Final Fantasy 7 kinda shuns people away as does the odd dubbing. We gave it a nice 9 out of 10 nonetheless.

Episode #24- Expo Report! The Mechtacular comes forth!!

Panel: Gene, Chris, Matt

News:

We covered the major aquitions and news coming out of this years Anime Expo 2007. Hear what we liked, what we didn’t like and why Bandai needs to get some new licences. As much as we wanted to have a sent in a con-report to go over talking about the non industry panels and news coming out of AX2k7 we didn’t have any probably due to non of our listeners being able to go. For a written report of AX, I suggest you check one of the major anime news distrubution websites.

Main Topic:

We brought forth the ‘Mechtacular’ and talked about what we enjoyed as far as mecha anime goes. We covered quite a bit of everything. We talked about what we look for in a mech series, how mech series have sort of evolved into different mech types and even answered a few emails on the subject.

Release Spotlight:

July 10:

Anime:

Ah My Goddess (Season 2, Volume 2)
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (Volume 4)

Manga:

Mobile Suit Gundam: Ecole du Ciel (Volume 6)
Lupin III (Volume 9)

Review:

After the lack of review last week, we had a nice review this week. Chris took a look at Origin Spirits of the Past. Citing an awesome and interesting polt, with stunning visuals we enjoyed this little wonder. Giving it a 9 out of 10 for its fine award winning movieness.

Sega releases game, without blue hedgehog this time…

Well someone heard me say there’s a big lack of Bleach game titles in the US. Go Sega for porting over some of those awesome titles to us.

First off… Bleach: Shattered Blade for the Nintendo Wii. This will be a fighting game similar in a way to the Dragonball Z Wii game in the sense that it is a fighting game which makes use of the wiimote and nunchuk attachment. The wii game will feature authentic voice acting from the US voice actors. It would be nice if a ’subtitle’ option is made available like with the DBZ title. 32 Characters will be made playable for this title and will feature a ‘unique storyline’ mode. As characters are unlocked, different options to the original story mode become available. In house multiplayer will be made available but nothing has been stated of this title making us of the Wii’s Wi-Fi capability.

Second, we are also getting Bleach: The Blade of Fate for the Nintendo DS. This will be a 2D side scrolling type of game featuring 28 Bleach characters. This too will be a fighting title featuring platformed levels for characters to jump above or below in. Another interesting feature is the use of Spirit Cards which will enable your characters to perform special attacks, healing, displace opponents, and other various effects. Finally, this title will make use of the Wi-Fi system allowing for 4 player combat.

Both titles are slated for a Fall 2007 US Release.

Main Topic:

Aside from being mainly off topic and crazy most of the show, we sat back and talked with Jes and Erica from Drawn by Pain and talk about their insperation for their awesome animation meets live action project. It was a lot of fun, and hope you check them out as well.

Review:

For the first time in 22 episodes, we skipped the review segment, however we didn’t mention this on the show but we will now. This month is a month of movies. We’re gonna sit down and check out some of the anime movies that have crossed our paths. Nothing from a series, but just stand alone movies that we are checking out for better or worse.
