More Games!!! The Melancholy Continues!!

kjah

On our last episode we reported in a Haruhi PSP game much to our amusement. However, after our episode annoucements were made for a Haruhi Playstation 2 game which is rumored to be a role playing game and a Nintendo Wii game which doesn’t even have much information associated with it at all.

Here’s my problem. Where’s my Azumanga Diaoh games? Where’s my Fruits Basket game? Where’s my Rurouni Kenshin games? Where’s my Fate/Stay Night game? Seriously, I could go on. Why make a game for something like Haruhi? It just boggles the mind right now for me. If you’re gonna make a game for an anime, at least make it from a series that has remotely playable aspects.

Could be worse I’m guessing there could be US announcements for these games…

Review:

Gene threw down a face down to review YuGiOh GX. This series while fun to look at visually has a dub as bad as Duel Masters and makes the dub for the original look fairly nice in comparison. The redone music really doesn’t help this series along either, while the original soundtrack is at least coherent to the series. The kind of all over the place plot doesn’t help the series along either, while awesome in some points, totally filler and hard to watch at others. While better in most respects to Duel Masters but not even living up to the dub of the original YuGiOh, we gave it a 6 out of 10. Sit your card game obsessed 10 year old brother or sister or cousin down with this and hope in 4 or 5 years they move on to some better anime.

Anime:

The Twelve Kingdoms(Box Set 1 and 2)
Fate/Stay Night(Vol. 4)
Burst Angel(iTunes)
Fullmetal Alchemist(Box Set 1; Available September)

Review:

Dispite the fact that we were going to avoid this… Chris reviewed the first disk of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Chris gave the simply stunning visuals and non-embarassing dub highlights as a part of his review. While finding the music track a tad bland, his biggest problem with this series was the absolutely zany plot(or lack there of) that this series portrays. If you’re looking for a nice brainless comedy to enjoy feel free to add this to your shelf. For those looking for something deeper, even for a comedy just rent it or borrow it from a friend. We gave this over hyped sensation a close 8/10 for impressive visual quality and the ability to make you laugh without having to think too much.

Review:

Gene took a look at the second Yu Yu Hakusho movie this week. While an overall enjoyable series movie, it sufferes from poor dubbing quality and its inability to break through the ceiling that it is trapped in as far as series movies go. While it at least reached its limit, the visuals were quite nice and the fights aren’t too shabby. We walked away with giving it a 6 out of 10. Oh yea, they change some names on ya if you’re use to the original series.

Blog SHAFT: June 4th 2007

Its been a small news week just about everywhere, including the anime world. So we thought we’d take a break and forgo this weeks episode of SHAFT. However, we would take a moment at point out a few anime articles that we did find this week.

New Gundam Series in Japan this October

Normally we don’t go into anime news from Japan too much but this is one article that caught our eye. Gundam is one of our favorite anime series of all time and its nice to see a new addition to that franchise after Gundam SEED Destiny. Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is set for a release this October in Japan as a series independent of the other Gundam series. The screen shots so far look nice and we’re looking forward to its release to our adoring otaku public.

Bandai Announces license to Galaxy Angel X and Galaxy Angel S Special

At A-Kon this past weekend, Bandai announced its acquisition of another Galaxy Angel series and special. We usually enjoy talking about new anime coming to the US and this is no exception. On episode 11 of the program we talked about Bandai’s acquisition of Galaxy Angel AA. Its looking like a Galaxy Angel bonanza of releases in the US in the near future.

Azureus announces agreement with Geneon Entertainment

Back on Episode 7, we talked about Manga Entertainment teaming up with Azureus to release anime via BitTorrent. Geneon has released a similar deal. Among the series that will be available are Ayakashi, Gankutsuou, Last Exile, and Lupin the Third(including the episodes not aired on Adult Swim). In addition, the first episodes of each of the series will be available free of charge. No information was given in regards to price or when this service will become available.

We’ve updated our side links with a couple of extra links. First is Drawn by Pain whom we have mentioned many times over. If you haven’t checked them out. Its high time you have. Second is, C-Tokyo which is a website which deals with anime goings on in the New England area. With a wide variety of links, they are defiantly in the know of any anime goings on in the northeast. This is not on our side links but defiantly worth a mention, Hottest Cosplay. Think of it as Hot or Not for cosplay. You take two cosplayers, put their pictures head to head and vote for the one who is better. If you’re into that concept then head on over and check it out.

Below this post are the show notes and episode link to SHAFT TV Episode 3, starting Matt and Angelo. Its a lot of fun and closes out our normal coverage from Anime Boston. We plan on releasing two more SHAFT TV episodes this month as well as more of our normal podcast. Keep your eyes pealed here for more developments.

And while we’re on the subject of podcasting. Check out 132 Geek Cast which is produced by our only wonderful sponsor, 132 Productions. It will be a fun show about overall geekery, parsed into segments and even some silly bits in between. So check that out as well, the first pilot episode should be up this week.
