This week we jump into the topic we skipped last week, Sports Anime. As you could probably guess without listening to the show… the panel isn’t too into sports anime but we give it our own unique slant anyway. Also on the topic are Anime Box sets, anime abridging and other topics that shouldn’t be discussed with children under 9. Thats right its another random packed edition of SHAFT!
Another reminder for the month of July we will be doing two things. One: all reviews will be a ‘Gundam’ series. Two: Live recordings will be on Monday and not Tuesday.

Honestly, I like the song better then the show…. oh I’m just kidding. Great video, fast paced and awesome editing and a kick-a song gives it the attention it deserves in my book! Check it out!
And yes… its another Forever Zeroo AMV… tough luck… they’re good.
Anime: Ouran High School Host Club
Song: Are You Gonna be my Girl – Jet

This week the gang is joined by Thomas. They start out a little random with some talk about how Ken Akumatsu anime is more cartoony then anything, a YouTube video at the expense of a certain… bland individual and have a spirited discussion of The Anime Networks new paid streaming service. We wind it all up with an email about where we find out about new anime and what we think of FUNimation grabbing Strike Witches.
We then turn the show over to Thomas who provides us with a con report from Metrocon. Which needless to say actually excited us.
After we tackle the weekly Twitter question, Release spotlight and a review of The Sky Crawlers!
Join us won’t you for SHAFT!
We’re bumping the Sports Anime topic to next week, there was a lot of email and community input this week so we covered that first!
Also, big thanks to Thomas for our new bumpers, big thanks for all those who took the time out of their busy schedules to record bumpers for us and big thanks to Thomas and Kevin for their segments!

Its summer time and that means its time to go outside and have some fun(unless you live here in which case you stay inside and avoid the rain)! And there’s one thing that screams summer fun, sports! Thats right we’re going to talk briefly this week about Sports Anime. We’re not going to talk about anything specific but just the sub-genre at large.. what constitutes a sports anime?, why are sports anime appealing? why sports anime might just suck? what an anime fan might look for in a sports anime.
We’re also going to be tackling some new releases coming out this week and reviewing The Sky Crawlers.
Also keep your eyes pealed to Gene’s Twitter for the twitter question which will be read and answered on the show! For those interested it’s: Are there any releases you’re looking forward to by the end of the year?

After a whole lot of bad impersonations, we go on to answer some anime related questions including… when we’re reviewing When They Cry, Naruto video games(and other anime related games), Anime that fall between Fruits Basket and Lucky Star, why ROD OVA is way better then the ROD TV and a brief anime history lesson by Angelo.
From there we talk about the viability of an anime museum, a big time release spotlight and a review of a crazy out of print title in Mad Bull 34.
Plus lots of other random stuff we’re well known for… Its SHAFT!
